Phoebe's latest cooking discovery is lemon posset. It's very creamy and very rich and a little goes a long way with some daisy-shaped shortbread (she uses this recipe which really would be enough for eight people). We decided to serve it some old tea cups and saucers as we couldn't find any small bowls, but next time we might have to use espresso cups.
Posset is a very traditional dessert or drink (I give a recipe in Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer for a warming, nutmeggy, before-bed posset inspired by The Box of Delights) and Pepys is known to have been partial to it.
('Pepys was partial to posset' is also a very good tongue-twister, I have just discovered. And I was tempted to call this post 'posh peeps' posset' because I can never resist a pun.)
I love the lemon colour against those pretty green teacups, so pretty x

I haven't had posset in ages, but you've reminded me how good it is. Yum!

I have only heard of posset in books I've read. How nice to know it is still made and enjoyed!

What a coincidence... I made posset this week with lemon and limes. I have only just discovered it but what a wonderful simple and delicious dessert. I can see it becoming a favourite. Yours looks lovely in those teacups.

I love the way this looks. So pretty and calming. I have never had Posset but it is something I plan to try in the near furture.

What a beautiful tea cup - and just as good as a posset cup too!

I've always wanted to try posset, and it looks so appealing in that cheery little cup. Is there a particular recipe Phoebe used, or did she make a variation on the recipe from your book?

I must make some - this looks so lovely and comforting! I might try gina's lemon and lime idea.

I also make lemon posset, but add a sprig of rosemary to the cream and sugar while it bubbles. You need to strain it out, as the leaves tend to fall off the sprig, but I always strain the posset into a jug for easy pouring anyway.
