catering

For Phoebe's leaving party.

Friday was Phoebe's last day at her school and, indeed, the last Brocket day at the place all three have attended for various lengths of time during the last seven years. So she invited twenty eleven year olds for a party in the garden to celebrate six happy years and some lovely friendships.

The catering involved sky-blue buns for a message, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts for a doughnut eating race.

We tie doughnuts on string to the branch of a tree at mouth height and place a child beneath each one, hands behind their back, and off they go.

Helium-filled balloons to decorate the garden and, later, for cartoon-style squeaky voices.

Dscf4710_edited

Sweets for sustinence during ball games and trampolining and dancing and penalty shoot-outs.

Bedding for the five-girl sleepover after the party.

A party girl.

The message.

And they did.

Now see ... I always miss out on the REALLY cool parties! The ones I get invited to NEVER have Haribo on tap. :(

Good luck to Phoebe in her new school life - transitions are always a little sad too aren't they - Well, for the parents if not for the child. How are you bearing up to it?

What fun!

As always, I love the colors -- especially that green doorway. I'm just not confident enough to choose a color like that for my house.

Have a great summer!

The bedding stack! That alone must have been like a fairy tale for those girls.

Splendid!

Donut-eating race? I'm all in! We have a two-fer birthday coming up- both Maddie and Mitch turn 12 and 10 respectively in four days. I was getting a little panicky on how to please everyone, but your brillance has again saved my day. Loved seeing the pile of quilts all patiently waiting. (for sugared-up girls to stay up, giggling and whispering well into the wee hours?) Off to try and be productive (or just slog into the sewing room to stare at fabric). Have a wonderful week. Cami

Congratulations, Phoebe!
It looks like the sun came out for you.
xoxo

Your shots are YUMMY! and lovely!! What fun!!

We had donut eating races at our birthday parties growing up. SO MUCH FUN!

anyone found a pea under those lovely lovely blankets?

Krispy Kreme doughnuts in England? wow. I suppose its only fair if we have Little Scarlet jam, you should have Krispy Kreme doughnuts...

Oh, so sugared up too, I bet! Love the colors, so warm and rich and happy.

PRO! Everythign like proffesional styled and made and photographed! Thank you for sharing these pictures, they make me happy!

oh my goodness!
i think this might be the most beautiful post you've ever done. and that's saying quite a lot!

jane, love the party girl. and you make me wish i were daring enough for a library as bold and beautiful as yours!

Splendid. I wish adult parties were such fun and full of bright color! Congratulations, Phoebe!

Wow - looks like a fantastic party. Great food, great decor, and great bedding.

these colors and textures were so fabulous, what a wonderful time!

Your posts are so colorful and fun - I want to be part of your family!! Or at least invited to the parties, and sleepovers, and for tea, and over for baking, and to be your new best friend!!

You add so much technicolor to otherwise black and white days!!

What a treat!

Your party post brought back some memories. I was in my mid-teens when we emigrated from England to Canada. For about two years prior to our move, whenever a party was being arranged, I would be the only girl left out. It was at the time when my father's successful business had gone pear-shaped. My parents would insist that this was not the reason for my exclusion, but since I did not demonstrate any socially-unacceptable character traits, I think it must have been a factor. I trust that you included everyone in what appears to be a really fun party.

These moving on occasions are so bittersweet, aren't they? (My kids have requested that I do not blubber in public, most notably at daughter # 1's first day of pre-school, but I still feel like it sometimes.) That green balloon at the top in the photo looks like it's just donning an Invisibility Cloak! Is your family as geared up for the release of HP and the Deathly Hallows as mine is?

awwwh that's so lovely.
i have such fond memories of leaving my first school, and all the summer parties people had in their gardens that year. this post brought it all back and made me realize i did the same thing at the end of sixth form and the first year of uni. seems like the end of an era is always accompanied with garden based reminiscences, the only difference is that as you get older those reminiscences get accompanied with chilled cider, but the basic precept is there :)

Phoebe looks very cool behind her balloon bouquet! Wish I'd had such colourful sleep overs in my youth; that bedding pile looks sumptious enough to die happy fighting over who got which blanket!

Lovely, lovely photos. Congratulations to your daughter on completing primary school. Such a big step.
That green really sets of the books on the plate rail. You are the only other person I 'know' who puts books on theirs!

What lovely photos! The buns and doughnuts look very tempting. I'm sure you throw a fab party, even the bedding pile looks fantastic!

hello, I'm delurking after a very long time to say hi!

absolutely delightful shots, particularly the balloons in the library
