magic
She may not make Queen Cakes, but she is undoubtedly the Queen of Cakes.
This week, Phoebe was put in charge of organising her class's fund-raising through the sales of cakes with a magic theme. So I keep finding shopping lists, lists of girls' names next to responsibilities, promotional material, and cake designs all over the house.
Although she is queen bee at school, it was this drone who did the cake-baking at home. Phoebe couldn't manage to make and decorate after school, so I was drafted in to supply the sponge while she was out. Several dozen fairy buns one day, and yesterday four separate cakes to construct the first prize in the school raffle. I loved the way Phoebe skipped off leaving me with all my instructions for the day, but then phoned from school to check that I was following them to the letter. Would I dare not?
So this is her Magical cake; vanilla sponge sandwiched with lemon buttercream and covered in a fetching shade of aqua frosting, topped with silver and blue adornments and a light sprinkling of iridescent fairy dust. It's a '12 aig cake' as the housekeeper in the Billabong series would say when boasting of how many eggs her creations contain (except her piece de resistance is a mere '10 aig cake').
I feel like a brickie who puts the construction together with bricks and mortar, while Queen Phoebe is the architect with all the wild ideas. Long may she reign.

And here are some magic tulips. These are 'Daydream'; they come up yellow and then change to a beautifully attractive soft apricot orange on the outside (a colour which reminds me of butterscotch Angel Delight),
but with vividly tangerine interiors. Utterly magical.

brava ladies! you are quite a team. i'm sure these magical creations will bring in quite a bit of revenue!!
xoxo

Well done! I'd pay good money for those!
Although now I am busy thinking of angel delight!

Those cakes look gorgeous! I just love the colour of that blue icing, so vibrant!

Seeing all of Phoebe's magical cakes, does make me want to break out the food coloring and go to town. (Not that I could hope to achieve such fantastic results!)
And I admire Phoebe's foresight in giving you lists and instructions. The most warning I ever got from my sons was the dreaded, "Oh, by the way..." announced shortly before bedtime on a Sunday. The last and worst example of this was when my younger son casually told me at 8:00 PM that he had to bring in four different types of cookies the next morning for a bake sale. I made him stay up with me until the last cookie came out of the oven. Even now, when I mention making cookies for anything he'll say, "No, Mom - it's too much work!"

Angel Delight - ahh what a reminder! I am almost embarrassed to admit it, but the butterscotch was my favourite as a child.

We are not worthy of the greatness of her vision.

For a second there, I thought that photo of the tulips was a painting!

I love the whimsy and magic of the blue icing. How fun! And those tulips: simply divine. Especially with the delicate dew drops on the petals. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely baking and decorating. The blue of the cake and the orange of the flowers are perfect together.

Some cakes are meant to be ... and some cakes are meant to be only so long as the Sous Chef is on 24 hours watch !!
Love the icing, we are experimenting with deep coloured icing, or rather DDs are experimenting and I am mixing the colours as instructed. B&S think Phoebe's cake is "class" and have requested we abandon all ideas of sorting and returning the junk to the playroom tomorrow so that I can bake cakes for them to decorate ..... now where did I hear that before LOL?

It's a beautiful fairy queen cake! Too pretty to eat.
Although I wish I could eat those tulips. They look as though they would be soft and creamy, with a flavor of peaches and honey.

Like mother, like daughter...Well done.

Congratulations to Phoebe on her beautiful cakes! I'm glad to see that there are still places where the bake sale can happen. Here in Oregon food sold to the public must be made in a commercial kitchen so bake sales are out. A major disappointment to me!

They are rather fabulous. I hope the sale went really well, Pheobe has certainly gone for eye-catching I think she knows her market well.

Cake stalls are a dying phenomenon here in Australia too - some councils have such stringent regulations on the handling, labelling and production of the goods that it is only the most tenacious of organisations that persist with them as a means of fundraising.
Phoebe's cakes are gorgeous.

Oh - I remember my drone days!! It is ok - someday down the road she will realize what a loving Mother she has! Great job on the Fairy cake - by the way!

Those cakes looked like they were a lot of fun to create. Phoebe surely is her mother's daughter. Go Phoebe!

Wow! Phoebe outdoes herself again (with a little bit of help from mum) - the decorating is, of course, the best bit!
And the tulips, Jane, here and above - amazing! Thank you again.

that cake is stunning. i wish i could have one to have as a glorious centrepiece to a tea party with traditional looking cakes in pop art vivid colours. i've got just the china for it too, black and white striped with red interiors, and blue and white star print. hmmm, i've just been given an idea.

WOW!
In an age of organics and natural colour it is so wonderful to see the vibrant colours on the cakes. They make me smile and feel excited i just love them, love them, love them!! There is not enough colour in the world, who wants to live in a minimalised(i think thats how you spell it)beige and brown world. Bring back colour and make the world a happier place.
