booking ahead
In the course of the next twelve months I'm going to be making a pile of quilts. A big pile of quilts. Because I have been commissioned to write a book on quilts and quilting. Just the thought of working with wonderful fabrics like this makes me very excited, although I know there will be times when I wish for Rumpelstiltskin-style speed and skills when turning my piles of fabric into a pile of quilts.
I can't answer any questions about publication date or contents or any other aspect of the book, but this news does explain why there has been a lack of quilting posts recently (I'm saving all my quilting thoughts and projects for the book).
And now I'm taking two of the quilts to the seaside to hand-quilt. I booked ahead, and we're off on holiday with a carful of children, books, bats, balls, bikes, needles and thread.

Congratulations! I really look forward to this book. Have a wonderful holiday, Jane!

Oh that is exciting news for you. How much fun you will have this next year. A quilt a month. Do keep us as involved as you can so we can watch the process. And make sure to let us all know when the book is ready to hit the shops.

I'm overjoyed to hear your new book will be about quilting. I am still waiting for the Time Fairies to sort out the necessary space in my schedule to give it a go. I'm guessing now they're waiting for your book to come out to help me along the way! I do hope we'll get a few snippets to keep us going in the time before publication!

I hope the quiltbook will be available for purchase in the us, although I would be willing to purchase from the UK and have it shipped here. You are such a wonderful author and your writing style makes it feel like you are sharing with an old friend.

That's wonderful - your quilts are always something I show to people when I am trying to explain to them the appeal of reading craft blogs.
Best wishes for fast fingers.

That's great news for all us quilters and aspiring quilters. I have been so inspired by the ones you have presented here earlier, and I'm sure a book from you will inspire many more to take up quilting! Now, don't let that thought weigh too heavily on your shoulders - I hope you are having fun with it!

Much congratulations! Am so excited for you. When you first mentioned another project, I thought: oh, I hope it is a quilting book and that your son plays as much a part as your daughter did in your latest book.
I so look forward to finding out the answer.

Congratulations on the latest book news - and on Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer that seems to be doing really well. I made the chocolate cake out of it this week and took it along to friends last night - they loved it!
Enjoy your holiday!

That's fantastically exciting news Jane! I credit you with reinvigorating my interest in quilting with your inspirational use of colour, and also with your beautiful and clever (yet still achievable!) quilts, and I can't wait to add this book to my Brocket collection. Congratulations!

Oh, how lovely that you're doing another book. Perhaps this will finally help me to overcome my fear of sewing. Congratulations.

I did wonder why your marvellously rich quilts had disappeared from the blog. They were what brought me here initially, so I'll be looking forward to seeing either some teasers, or if not, the book itself. Good luck pulling it all together.

wow!! I can't wait to see it. Congratulations Jane!

i can't think of a better way to spend holiday: with family and quilts by the sea!
i'm really so happy for you! i imagine that means you get to be reimbursed for fabric! ecstacy! i'm looking forward to the US publication of your book!

Of course, you'll let us know as soon as the book is out, as always, but I will say that I'll be awaiting it with much anticipation. Although I haven't been brave enough yet, your site is what's made me eager to start quilting. So a book will be very helpful!

Congratulations - I'm so pleased for you at how your career as an author has taken off - well deserved.

Your fabrics are always so beautiful!
Posted by: Dorothy | July 31, 2008 at 04:41 AM
I'm so excited about this. Your quilts have really inspired me to start quilting (I just started my first one last week!) because you've helped me to realize that I don't have to piece together daunting, incredibly complicated and time-consuming blocks. I can achieve beautiful results from relying on color and a simple quilt block.

that is very good news, I have never made a quilt but am about to make the quilt with huge silk squares from the gentle art of domesticity for my brother's wedding present. Does this make me the first ever person to make a Jane Brocket quilt from a Jane Brocket book?

you are SO on a roll! Bravo!
Posted by: sarah | July 31, 2008 at 09:56 PM
Wow!!! I haven't written to you or commented in seven months but I just have to tell you how truly excited I am about your new book. You know how much I adored your first book and now you will be writing about my very favorite subject, QUILTS! Thanks Jane for being such an inspiration to me.

Congratulations Jane-you'll have us looking forward to your books for years! Did you see the lovely quilt show over at http://knittingiris.typepad.com/
I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Congratulations! I'm looking forward to seeing the results. You've shown again and again that you have such a good instinct for colour and pattern - I thought you should have been snapped up as a quilt designer a long time ago. Your quilts are beautiful and this will be a gorgeous inspiration for the rest of us. And um... no, I haven't finished my pot pourri quilt yet. The poor neglected thing languishes sadly at the end of the to do list. One day...
Posted by: Katherine | August 05, 2008 at 02:47 PM
yayyyy I CANNOT WAIT for this book to come out, I am teetering on the brink of starting a quilt, I often flick through your GAofD book and gaze at your quilts Jane, so inspirational, as I'm sure the book will be.
Hope it'll include info on where/how to buy fabrics, aren't we soooooo short of decent colours here in the UK? The US is streets ahead of us, but I have not been brave enough to order from the US yet...need it de-mystifying!
