Right, well, after yesterday's sugariness, I need to turn up the heat and spice. Cooking with chillis (home-grown and with a real bite despite the cool summer) always cleanses the system after an overdose of sweet stuff and this worked brilliantly last night.
And Liza, I'll have you know that my hot pash for Cary Grant is in no danger of burning out. After reading your comment, I scurried off to watch Only Angels have Wings and it reaffirmed everything I already knew. That he's the best. Even when he wears far too much eyeliner and very high-waisted trousers.
Hello Jane....................... Sweet and Savoury! That's what these two posts are! Rather a nice balance.......................... I'm now going to do a bit of begging................ Please could you leave a comment on my blog for today............... I only ask because I am having a 'giveaway' to celebrate a year of my blog, (I'm giving away a little painting).................... And the thing is............. I'm terrified it's going to be highly embarrasing, and I'm not going to get many comments, which will be a bit soul destroying! So I'm trying to drum up comments from friends and family so I don't look too ................. well, pathetic................ though there is something completely pathetic about asking people to comment for a 'giveaway' post, I'm fully aware! Well, if I have to look a bit sad, it won't be for lack of trying not to look sad, will it.............?!!!!! : )

The prefect antidote :)
I made your Chalet School Apple Cake last weekend for a gathering of fellow EBD fans. It went down a treat!

Hi Jane,
My fav is A Touch of Mink because Cary has a touch of silver in the hair and he's not acting silly. I just watched Father Goose for the first time and did enjoy him in that. Only Angels Have Wings is also a visual delight! I like being "middle of the road", that way I can enjoy alot of different experiences, instead of focusing on a few!

High waisted trousers are back in fashion aren't they? Although, perhaps not for men!

Oh, Cary, Cary, Cary! How I love him even when he's being slapstick (Arsenic and Old Lace or My Favorite Wife)or in serious war propoganda films (Destination Tokyo). I can't think of a movie of his that I don't like - no matter how formulaic.

This picture is really pretty. How did you get the peppers and garlic to look so colorful?

Thank you for your blog. I have so enjoyed Yarnstorm, and your new blog is just as charming and inspiring. I recently watched 'The Bishop's Wife' with Cary Grant, for the first time. I think it is my new favorite Christmas movie!
Happy December!

I see you are reading Edward Thomas. I read him in the heat of summer here in Australia, because he reminds me of cool english lanes and his poem 'It rains' ( think it is called) describing an orchard, always bring tears to my eyes.

Hello Jane,
I've been lurking and catching up on your previous posts for a few months now...LOVE your site, your suggestions on all things--especially BBC 4, which I am now listening to from New Jersey. Great stuff--as is your blog!
Thank you!
