You feed them. You water them. You give them fresh air, sunlight and space. Some may get off to a slow start but later on they catch up, and in time they overtake the rest. And I'm not just talking about my sunflowers. This is Tom, who has finally grown into his knee-caps.
*I've been using Miracle-Gro for years, mostly in the garden.
Oh, I love your kneecap comment! That's exactly what I used to say about my son - "His legs are two pretzel sticks connected with large grapes!" He's now 6'10" and a handsome young man, as is your Tom.

Gracious he is tall! Awww bless him.

I have always told my children that when they have grown bigger than me, then it's their turn to look after me, rather than my looking after them!

As a mom of a very tall, very slim son who is also named Tom and who plays rugby and used to row, I must say I love this picture. Especially against the door. My Tom's bedroom door has many years of pencilled growth for him and his shorter, older brother.

Ah yes, they do grow. Mine are all taller than I am now. I love this time of life!

While I am not on the child track yet, it is a wonderful picture of your Tom. I love the jersey colors against the door. You are such a wonderful photographer!

With a just about to be 12 year old boy in the house, am very aware that things are about to change in all sorts of ways and the clothes on the washing line are taking up more and more space each year. The hair, however, seems vaguely familiar...great photo, as always.

I had to laugh when I read your Miracle Gro comment. When my 19 year old son was about two we mixed up a big patch and put it in a bucket near the garden. I turned my head for one second - that was all - and he had taken a sip of it. I guess it looked like Kool Aid to him. He hasn't stopped growing one bit since then! We tease that it was the Miracle Gro! By the way - if your baby ever drinks it by mistake, lots and lots of water is called for according to poison control. :)

Too funny. My daughter really is on Miracle Gro (growth hormone- that's what we call it) and has made it past her goal of 5 feet-yay! She is heading toward 5' 2" and we are all thrilled. My son is just having a major growth spurt the old fashioned way and starting to eat us out of house and home. I'm sure you know something about that too!

I am looking at my two little boys (4 and 16 months) then back at that photo and then at our house. I'm getting a little scared and planning an extension...

My ten-year-old is due for a spurt, I love when they shoot up suddenly. Does Tom have to duck through all your doorways?

So true and then they're bigger than you. I have just seen my previously unbothered 15yr old waxing his hair before he goes off to the bus. He's also beginning to talk! (and he's about 4 inches bigger than me). Which is more than I can say for my sunflowers this year!

Is...is that a DOOR he's standing in front of? Like, a normal sized door?
Heavens! :)

No, it's a relatively small door - I placed him there for a laugh!

My boy is eight this weekend and I know in our not-so-distant is that WHOOSH moment when he is going to shoot past me, his dad, the ceiling ....

Phew I'm glad I read the comments about the door! I was just going to suggest maybe basketball instead of rugby. My girls are almost looking me in the eye now - I'm holding my own ... just!

How funny - my son took a long, long time to grow into his feet. And the day of triumph dawned when he found he was taller than me - a great relief to him, with a mother 5'2" tall.

Thanks for confirming about the door. It was good for the laugh. One Christmas, my Tom said he that was taller than his 5'6" mom (me). I swore that he wasn't and was right (it was about a 1/16th of an inch). But, about two weeks later, he passed me by and now I am about a foot shorter.
