I am terribly saddened and upset by the news that Elspeth Thompson died last week. I knew of Elspeth through her books and articles long before we met so was thrilled when she wrote very kindly about my first book in the Sunday Telegraph and then, to my surprise and delight, left a comment on my blog. Eventually we met and kept up a correspondence about flowers, gardens, quilts, family and books until just a few days ago. She was just as lovely in person as she was in her books, and it was a privilege to know her. She was generous, caring, thoughtful and extremely talented. She was one of the most beautiful people I have ever met, and I can only imagine how difficult it must be for her family to bear this loss.
