Years ago, I worked for Sanderson. I didn't stay with the company very long but I did come away with a taste for chintz fabrics and chintzy designs. I loved the shiny glaze on the freshly finished fabrics and the swathes of gorgeous English Country House-style fabrics in the showroom, and fell heavily for the big, blowsy florals.
So it's no wonder I adore the Rowan quilting fabrics designed by Philip Jacobs (who also designs for Sanderson). He captures the wonderful charm of chintz in lovely, large-scale designs in all sorts of beautiful colours. His fabrics have inspired me to make a chintzy quilt and I have been gathering some fabrics. They look so lovely in a pile - just like the bolts of fabrics on the racks at Sanderson that we used to look at and dream over in our lunch-breaks - that I'm finding it hard to begin the cutting.
I find it almost impossible to take scissors to chintz and this is why we still have a few rolls of Sanderson chintz ('seconds' were very cheap) hidden in the garage 22 years after I left.
